Every YouTube channel has a special page within Captionfy, where all the public submitted subtitles for their videos can be found. Here is how to find out if you have captions submitted for your videos, and how to use them on YouTube.
Let's use the amazing Rick Astley's channel as an example. Entering the channel page, copy the URL (the link for the channel).
You will be redirected to the channel page within Captionfy. Here you will see all the submitted subtitles for your YouTube videos.
Click on any of the videos in your channel page to get the subtitles created for them. If you don't see any videos, it means your fans still haven't captioned your videos within Captionfy - so let them know about the platform for your future videos!
Each item within the box saying "Choose captions:" is a fansub subtitle for your video. Here you can also find out who made the captions and even donate to the captioned if they have any donation links (Ko-fi, Patreon and others).
A pop up like the above will show up and you can select the subtitles file format you want to download. All available formats are accepted by YouTube. Note that if the subtitles have styling features, like coloring, there will be a warning recommending to download as .smi. This is important for the styling to reflect on YouTube as well.
You can follow this link to learn how to upload the subtitles to your video on YouTube.
Please note that in case the subtitles have styling features, you should not edit the captions within YouTube studio. Editing them might break the styling of your subtitles.
We hope Captionfy can be a simple tool for any YouTuber out there who wants fan made subtitles for their videos. If you need any help using the platform, you can let me know at joao@captionfy.com Have fun using it and I hope you like it! Thank you for reading this article!
